With regard to the Doggy do do problem, and it's getting such that if you look up to admire the coastal
views your IN IT, as is evident by the squashed brown patches every where, and some of the UN squashed piles are akin to human size, Hope it isn't! The problems
we face were faced in Paris where dog fouling was a disgrace, so much so they employed motor cycle Hoover squads. Special motorcycles equipped with large vacuum
tubes that sucked up the offending mess, probably a couple of such machines could be employed by Shepway to cover the areas around our coastline. It wouldn't cost
too much and one bike could cover quite an area with a dedicated rider, and that's the rub 'DEDICATION," sadly lacking in many areas. We wouldn't have the dog
problem in the first place if the owners were a little more DEDICATED to disposing of their pooches mess in the first place. Yours Duncan C (St Mary's Bay Kent) Blame the owners they are worse than the dogs
the dogs cannot pick up the mess, the owners can, there should be a prison sentence.
I was reading an American magazine the other day, and noticed an article on artificial
reefs, the Americans and Australians have started to build reefs with all the old
cars and tyres left in scrapyards, chained together and dropped to the sea bed,
not only do these reefs quickly become covered in
marine life, they also create a habitat for fish giving them sanctuary, in an ever harsher sea.
These reefs also stop trawlers from fishing too close to the shore, both nations have seen massive increases in fish stocks
in a very short period of time, which as an angler, can only be good for the environment and fisherman both commercial
and pleasure.
Talking of commercial fisherman, I thought that bass nursery areas were not allowed to be worked by commercial fishing boats, take a look at Dungeness in Kent the power station outlets are trawled on a regular bases
one rule for them one for the pleasure angler?
And finally we have lots of criticism thrown at us all for litter being left on the beaches, yes we know there are a minority
of anglers? that do leave litter, but what about the dog walkers, there is s*** left everywhere I have seen them pick it up in
plastic bags them throw it into the sea, one chap when challenged about leaving dog do-do on the sea wall and beach said"
the tide comes in twice a day to wash it away"? and as for dog wardens the beaches of Hythe/Dymchurch/St Mary's bay and other
south coast areas are disgusting but there are none to be seen, come on SHEPWAY DISTRICT COUNCIL get your act together, lots of local small businesses
rely on anglers coming into the area, but DO YOU REALLY CARE?
