The Rother estuary can be found near Rye East Sussex at Rye Harbour, the Harbour is home to the local lifeboat who do a great job patrolling the areas of Rye and Camber sands, a very popular tourist area boasting a pontins resort and numerous caravan and camp sites, the Harbour can be found by taking the A259 into Rye, and then turning off at the Rye Harbour turning, follow this road for approximately 2miles and you will come into the Harbour area, which has plenty of parking, it also has a very nice old pub, but I don't drink, so I have not been there?

Looking Toward The Rother Mouth
You then walk toward the sea, about 2 miles, so traveling light is recommended, As you walk towards the sea you will notice a wall part way out into the estuary, this wall travels the length of the estuary and stops at the mouth, it is about 25-30ft out into the estuary and it is cover at high water so take note of the lower parts and gaps, as you must cast over the wall to find the fish, I say cast but all you need is a lob.
The Wall

The main target fish here are Bass, Eel, Flounder, the odd Codling, Whiting & Pouting, the Bass & Eels love peeler crab, the next best bait is black lug Codling and Whiting go mad for it when they are in the mood, I have heard of a 14lb bass being caught on peeler crab this year, and loads of smaller bass from 3-8lb

Although the bottom is fairly clean expect to lose a few fish and bits of tackle on the wall, one way that will help to keep tackle loses to a minimum is to flatten a 5oz weight not only will this help to keep the bait anchored to the bottom, but on retrieval acts as an aquaplane and lifts the terminal gear quickly and easily over the top of the wall, also keeping the rod as high as possible helps.
When fishing for Bass in the warmer months I tend to use a pennel rig, the hook size I use is 2/0, and when attached to a long flowing snood of about 6ft long, and 20lb breaking strain clear mono, seams to out fish any other combination I have tried.
For all other species I use a 3 hook-flapping rig with size 1 or 1/0 hooks baited with good fresh lug worm.
The Mouth
Please Remember this is a Conservation area so don't leave rubbish and try to stay on the footpath.
